In Brazil, the first comic books were released in the 19th century (the same as in UK) and they adopted the "charge", "cartons" or "caricaturas" style. Brazil had a lot of different cartoonists, but american, british and japanese influence were very strong. Nowadays, there is a very known comic: "Turma da Mônica" by Maurício de Souza.
There is a very popular comics festival in Piracicaba, Brazil, but there are also a lot of different places where you can buy, read or even know more about it!
